East Village Building Collapse Relief & Recovery Information

Following last Thursday afternoon’s explosion and building collapse in the East Village on East 7th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan, a reception center is open at Tompkins Square Branch Library (331 East 10th Street) from 9 AM to 8 PM.

Mayor De Blasio Appoints Joseph Esposito as Commissioner, NYC Office of Emergency Management

NEW YORK – Mayor Bill de Blasio today announced the appointment of Joseph Esposito to serve as New York City’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Commissioner. As Commissioner of OEM, Esposito will be responsible for ensuring that New York City is fully prepared to respond to natural and man-made emergencies, coordinating disaster response among all city agencies, and properly educating city residents on disaster preparedness.

I wanted to share with you the incredible work CERT has been doing this past week. Wednesday’s building collapse on East 116 Street and Park Avenue in East Harlem had a major impact on the city. Throughout this response, CERT members have been integral to providing support to first responders and on-site agencies.
