UWS CERT Will Hold a Free Ready New York Presentation and Go Bag Raffle – All Are Welcome
September is National Preparedness Month, a perfect time for individuals and communities to assess their emergency and disaster readiness. In the wake of 9/11, we are all more aware of the danger of terrorist attacks, but the fact is, we are faced with a variety of dangerous emergencies all year round. Heat waves, blackouts, fires, gas explosions, building collapses, snowstorms, even tornadoes — New York City has seen them all.
On Monday, September 20, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., Upper West Side CERT will demonstrate what to do in an emergency or disaster situation: how to make an emergency plan; how to assemble a Go Bag and home supply kit; when and how to evacuate; how to locate loved ones; and more. The event will be held in the community room of the Red Oak Apartments, 135 West 106 Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues, New York City.
Ready New York is a public service advertising campaign designed by the New York City Office of Emergency Management in partnership with The Advertising Council to encourage New Yorkers to be ready for all types of emergencies.
