UWS CERT Marks Its Fifth National Night Out

NYPD captain reads mayor's proclamation. The weather cooperated and Upper West Siders came out in droves to enjoy the festive midsummer atmosphere. It was Tuesday, August 2, 2011, and a perfect evening for the “28th Annual National Night Out” (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).

National Night Out events took place around the city and across the country, bringing communities, law enforcement agencies, businesses, and civic groups together to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, and strengthen neighborhood spirit.

UWS CERT outreach teams manned information tables at two Manhattan locations — Columbus Circle and Verdi Square — distributing brochures and informing passersby about the Ready New York and CERT programs.

Other NNO participating organizations included the NYPD (20th and 24th Precincts), the Central Park Precinct Community Council, New York Road Runners Club, the ASPCA, and several corporate sponsors.

As always, we have photo evidence, so enjoy!

Please stop the crazy so-called music next year… it was not a successful evening because no one could hear anyone unless they were screaming!

Thanks, Tar, we complained, too. Let’s hope they could hear us!

It was great to see so many out in the Upper West Side to show their support. It’s always good to see an onslaught of community support, especially for emergency response teams.
