Upper West Side CERT held its first Ready New York presentation for the public this past Monday. It was hosted by the Manhattan Valley Golden Age Center @ The Red Oak.
Deputy team leader Ian Alterman, who is also the CERT team’s outreach chair, made the presentation to a lively and diverse audience that included Upper West Siders, CERT new recruits, and members of the Red Oak senior community, as well as CERT team members.
The Ready New York presentation gives an overview of what it means to be prepared for an emergency or disaster, and how New Yorkers can prepare their families and communities. The participants also receive a variety of printed materials and access to online resources where they can learn more.
Two full-size Go Bags and two subway emergency kits were raffled off. The four lucky winners can be seen in the slide show below.
A similar event, customized for a senior and/or disabled population, is tentatively planned for October. Stay tuned!
